Stand-Up Class Graduation Show Congratulations to this session's Stand-Up Comedy Class Graduates who had their show on Wednesday, May 30th. They put on a great show and have taken the first step in their comedy careers! Watch this space for information on upcoming Stand-Up and Improv Comedy Classes so you, too, can be Comedy Superstars!
Stand-Up and Improv Comedy Classes The Stand-Up Comedy Workshop is designed to help comic performers and writers of any level to design and polish their own original stand-up comedy routines, teach writing and editing techniques, joke structure, stand-up comedy history, and much more. The classes will be taught by writer/performer Rich Lamb, an eight-year veteran of improvisational and stand-up comedy. Guest speakers as well as question and answer sessions with nationally touring comics performing at The Comix Café will be invaluable. There will also be a Wednesday evening graduation show following the 8-week course to showcase your new talents to friends, family, co-workers and interested strangers in a safe and encouraging environment.
Tuition for the course is $150, which is much cheaper than therapy. The current session, starting in March, is already in session. Keep an eye here for info on the Graduation Show and the next set of classes. You can also sign up for our E-Mail Club and be reminded.
Our next 8-week Improvisational Workshop 101 is not yet scheduled, but will be soon, I'm sure! This course will help you think on your feet, build upon skills you already have (but may not even know about) and help you win friends and influence people. No experience necessary, just a willingness to work in a diverse group, look silly sometimes, and have fun. Tuition for the Improv Workshop is $150.
The
Improv Workshop will be taught by ComedySportz of Buffalo performer and
Second City Conservatory graduate Kevin DiLucente, Jr. Though designed for the beginner, the improv course can
also be a great refresher for those with experience. Even the most
polished stand-up comics find improvisational skills helpful.

Amateur Comedy Night The Comix Cafe currently does not host Amateur Night, but recommends heading out every Tuesday night at 8:00pm at Nietzsche at 248 Allen Street. Sign up ahead of time by calling Kristin at 536-6119.

Sending us a good-quality tape is best, but we don't watch an entire hour-long tape, so make sure it gets to the funny in the first five minutes. CDs and DVDs are also welcome. Please include headshots, bio, and resume with references. Include in your cover letter if you are a headliner, feature act, emcee, or just looking for a guest spot.
